Clip 'n Climb Leeds
Clip 'n Climb Leeds wants everyone to enjoy climbing.
The centre aims to be welcoming, inclusive and easy to use. Climbing can help people have fun, keep active and build confidence.
The centre welcomes:
- Children and young people with SEND
- Families
- Schools
- Charities
- Support groups and organisations
There are no regular SEND-only sessions at present. However, staff are happy to talk with families and groups about individual needs.
It is best to contact the centre before booking. This helps staff plan the visit and provide the right support.
How Staff Can Help
Staff can:
- Suggest quieter times to visit.
- Turn down the music when possible.
- Allow extra time for safety talks.
- Arrange extra instructors when available.
- Welcome parents, carers and support workers to help during the session.
Every climber is different. Staff will try to make reasonable adjustments when it is safe to do so.
Assisted SEND Climbing
Clip 'n Climb Leeds has an Assist Hoist System and an Adventure Harness.
This equipment helps people who need extra support take part in climbing safely.
The Adventure Harness fits a wide range of ages, sizes and support needs. This helps more people enjoy climbing.
Fully Assisted SEND Climbing
Some climbers may need more support.
For these climbers, the centre also has a Chute Harness.
Parents, carers and support workers can help throughout the session using the Assist Hoist System.
Trained instructors will:
- Show how the equipment works.
- Explain how to use it safely.
- Support climbers during the session.
Accessibility Facilities
The centre has accessible facilities, including:
- A Birdie mobile hoist to help wheelchair users put on climbing harnesses.
- An accessible toilet with a height-adjustable changing bench.
- Space for parents, carers and support workers to assist climbers.
- Friendly trained staff who can offer help and advice.
The Birdie mobile hoist can also be used in the accessible toilet when needed.
Reasonable Adjustments
Everyone's needs are different.
Visitors can tell staff about any support they may need when booking.
Staff will discuss individual needs and make reasonable adjustments when it is safe to do so.
Examples include:
- Recommending quieter sessions.
- Allowing extra time for instructions.
- Turning down background music.
- Making other suitable adjustments where possible.
Planning a Visit
Families, carers and support workers are encouraged to contact the centre before booking.
Staff can discuss support needs and help plan the visit.
